Yesterday something truly historic happened. After —–years of activists and organizers fighting for the release of political prisoners President Obama commuted the sentences of whistleblower Chelsea Manning and Puerto Rican liberation leader Oscar Lopez Rivera. There is no better time than now to bring home the rest of the victims of the COINTELPRO program that targeted activists and sent some of our most dedicated movement leaders to prison.
Despite having inspired millions, these freedom fighters continue to face repression due to their unapologetic commitment to the fight for racial, economic and social justice. People like Leonard Peltier, Veronza Bowers and Dr. Mutulu Shakur should not be behind bars. Now is time they come home. This is why today we’re asking President Obama to #FreeEmAll. The urgency of this moment requires all of us to take action today in the final days of the Obama Administration.
Will you immediately call the Department of Justice’s Office of the Pardon Attorney Robert A. Zauzmer at 202-616-6070, ext. 4, and give him this message?
“Hello, my name is_____________, and I’m calling on President Obama to release all currently held political prisoners from prison before he leaves office. Leonard Peltier (#89637-132, USP Coleman), Veronza Bowers (#35316-136, USP Atlanta), and Dr. Mutulu Shakur (#83205-012, Victorville USP) represent a small number of currently incarcerated individuals who have served over 30 years in prison each as a result of the illegal COINTELPRO program that targeted social justice activists and communities of color. They have served their time and deserve to finally come home to their families and communities.”
Once you’ve called Attorney Robert A. Zauzmer, please spread the word on social media by using hashtag #FreeEmAll and this image.
